A NEW RIFLE CLUB OPENS FOR CIVIL SERVANTS ON MERSEYSIDE
We have great pleasure in announcing the formation of the Civil Service Sports Council-Target Sports Association (Merseyside). As a Home Office approved rifle association, our mission is a simple one:-
To provide access to target shooting, regardless of discipline, to the civil servants of Merseyside, in a safe, enjoyable and responsible manner, whilst fostering the spirit of enjoyment and competition amongst association members.
All this, whilst paying particular attention to the doctrines of safe practises and individual discipline whilst shooting.
Our Association will be based at Aintree Pistol Club (near Sandhills Train Station), which, before handguns were banned in the UK, was one of the largest indoor pistol shooting ranges in the country. As a member of our newly formed Association, you will be instructed in the use of the following firearms:-
.22lr bolt action rifle
.22lr semi-automatic rifle
.22lr single shot Martini Action Target Rifle (once competent with other rifles)
.357 Magnum Underlever Carbine
.44 Magnum Underlever Carbine
Do you own an air rifle/pistol?
If so, you may bring them to the range and use them as well The association will meet every Monday evening between the hours of 7pm and 10pm You will be able to shoot purely for your own enjoyment, compete against yourself, or take part in organised competitions against other members within the association.
However, the association has been formed with the intent that we should be able to expand and offer other calibres/disciplines as the association grows. With this in mind, we would hope to offer, in the near future, full bore rifle shooting, up to and including .308/7.62mm at distances including and in excess of 200 metres at a venue in Merseyside. We are also investigating the possibility of running regular clay shooting events with shotguns and also the use of muzzle loading pistols.
Again, as we are Home Office approved, membership of the association will, upon completion of a probationary period, allow you to apply for your own firearm certificate. The association officers will assist in any way they can, anyone wishing to apply for a certificate and you will be actively encouraged to do so. To qualify for membership, the only requirements are that you reside in the Merseyside area and you are a current member of the CSSC.
An open induction night will be held on the 10 th of April 2006, in the basement room of the Slaughterhouse Public House, Fenwick St, Liverpool, beginning at 7pm. Here you will be given all the information necessary to join the Association and Association officials will be on hand to answer your questions. If you wish to attend the induction evening, please contact the association Secretary, Russell Greenacre via any of the methods below.
